Customers join together at the Mobile Solutions Center
After spending the day on the TCA show floor, CEOs, Presidents and Fleet Owners were able to enjoy a round of golf, and an afternoon at GE's new state of the art Mobile Solutions Center for some networking and a demonstration of our innovative technology solutions. This 53-foot custom trailer will continue to tour the country throughout 2005 making stops at our branches and customer locations.

GE files 10th Telematics Patent for VeriWiseTM
The spirit of famed inventor and company founder Thomas Edison is still very much alive at GE, where scientists have partnered with engineers at GE's Trailer Fleet Services business to develop new remote monitoring solutions… A total of 10 patent filings related to Telematics now have been made with the U.S. Patent Office by GE, with dozens more in progress.

| Ask an Expert question: When I read about the technology behind asset tracking I hear the terms "telematics" and "M2M" quite often - what do these new buzz words mean and how is GE leading in this technology?

It can get confusing with all the new technology terminology being used these days in connection with trailer tracking. Simply stated, Telematics is the integration of wireless communications, vehicle sensor-based monitoring systems and location devices, and M2M stands for machine-to-machine wireless communications technology. For trailer tracking, its all about remotely monitoring assets to provide intelligent actionable information to help fleets run more efficiently.
However, it should be known that not all companies offering a tracking solution can claim to have expertise in telematics or M2M. By offering analytics applied to sensor and location data we raise the IQ dramatically over simple assets. While customers say they want location and security data, we want to take the next step and offer wing-to-wing logistics and analytics services.

In a semi-trailer outfitted with plasma-screen displays, leather couches and a small classroom, a group of General Electric Co. employees last week in Las Vegas monitored the paths of 30 low-orbit satellites. While it comes as little surprise that the international conglomerate would be interested in such satellite technology, the company is applying it aggressively to a traditionally low-tech industry -- trucking. |
