ServiceCraft Entrusts GE for Tracking

California Company Adds Tracking to both Reefers and Dry Vans via GE's VeriWise™.

ServiceCraft, a full-service transportation management provider, has added the VeriWise™ asset intelligence system to its eight-unit refrigerated trailer fleet, in addition to its 200-unit fleet of dry vans. It purchased VeriWise from GE's Trailer Fleet Services business.

According to Aaron Olin, ServiceCraft's director of transportation services, the decision to add asset tracking to their fleet of reefer and dry van units was based on economics, and GE's reputation.

"The costs for adding trailer tracking to a fleet of our size, is about half of what it was several years ago," said Olin. "We've been renting and leasing trailers from GE for almost 20 years. When it made financial sense for us to add trailer tracking, we selected VeriWise over other asset intelligence solutions, because of our positive experience with the company and GE's reputation for understanding the needs of the transportation logistics industry."

GE heading up hybrid fuel-cell bus project

The General Electric Co. (GE) will lead a $13-million research partnership with the Federal Transit Administration, Ballard Power Systems and A123 Systems to develop a zero-emissions hybrid fuel cell bus.

The research will be conducted by GE's Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY, said Mark Little, senior vp and director of GE's research arm.

"Advancements in hybrid propulsion systems and battery chemistry offer tremendous promise for enabling cleaner, more affordable transportation alternatives that will reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote a cleaner, healthier environment," Little explained.

USPS turns to GE for trailers

Under a new six-year contract, the Trailer Fleet Services division of GE Equipment Services will provide the U.S. Post Office with over 4,750 dry van trailers to move mail between distribution centers and local post offices. The contract calls for all of the Postal System trailers to be fitted with GE's VeriWise untethered tracking system.
