U.S. Postal Service Chooses GE

U.S. Postal Service and GE agree to new six-year contract for trailers, includes high-tech tracking system to improve productivity and security.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and Trailer Fleet Services, a division of GE Equipment Services, have agreed to a new, six-year contract for domestic, over-the-road semi-trailers, used to transport mail between postal distribution centers and local post offices.

The agreement includes installation of GE's VeriWise™ Asset Intelligence system, which tracks and monitors trailer location and condition while in transit, or when parked.

GE invests $10 million across its North America branch network to meet demand for analysis & control of trailer maintenance costs
 

GE has announced a $10 million investment to help trucking firms analyze and better control their maintenance cost on leased and customer-owned trailers.

To create this new maintenance cost control model, GE has made major financial investments in technology, mechanic recruiting & training, and core business process improvements.

GE launches Trailer Mechanic University to build skills and career opportunities
 

GE has announced the formation of Trailer Mechanic University, an internal training program intended to attract and retain qualified trailer mechanics to serve the trucking industry. Instructors will include both in-house experts and trainers from leading trailer manufacturers and major sub-component firms. Agreements have already been reached with Carlisle Motion Controls Inc, Michelin, Trucklite and ArvinMeritor.

GE's Trailer Mechanic University will offer classes exclusively to employees of Trailer Fleet Services through a combination of on-site and Web-based instruction. Upon completion, students will become "GE-certified," enabling them to advance their career and earning potential in GE as a trailer mechanic.

GE completes its installation of ATA "Good Stuff, Trucks Bring It" decals; pledges to add another 10,000 to its semi-truck rental trailers
 

GE's Trailer Fleet Services business has announced its completion of a May 2006 pledge to have 10,000 of its rental trailers carry "Good Stuff, Trucks Bring It" decals to support the image campaign of the American Trucking Associations. At the same time, it has announced plans to install another 10,000 decals.

GE names national executives in U.S., Canada for its Trailer Fleet Services business
 

GE has promoted Brent Russell, of Charlotte, NC, to the role of national sales vice president for the company's Trailer Fleet Services business in the U.S., and appointed Bill Thomas of Mississauga, Ontario, as General Manager for the company's Canada business. Both will report to Bob Williams, senior vice-president of sales.
