Sale and Leaseback Option

Do you have a TRAC lease payment coming due on financed trailers that you still want to use?  Consider doing a Sale and Leaseback (SLB) to get the cash you need.  It is a creative and effective way to avoid that large out of pocket payment.

The way it works: you sell your trailers for market value, then lease them back for the remaining use period.  You get cash from the sale that is used to payoff the TRAC payment.   In many cases, the amount funded for trailers will exceed the TRAC amount, and you receive those excess funds.  Using lease versus debt to finance the TRAC payment, you also transfer remarketing risk to the Lessor, and typically you will have lower monthly cash outflow during the lease term.

Additional benefits of an SLB strategy can include:

  • Possible off-balance sheet financing
  • Defined Trade Terms: 50% Tires/50% Brakes/$250 Damages
  • End of term exit strategy; no need to monitor used trailer markets
  • Ability to drop off trailers at many locations throughout the United States

GE’s Trailer Fleet Services can help you analyze whether a Sale and Leaseback option is right for your business.  Contact Doug Lee at 484-254-0395 to learn more about this option.

Renting Trailers:  Key Things to Consider

Q. I often need to rent trailers.  What are key things I should consider in selecting a supplier?

A. GE-Trailer Fleet Services’ Product Leader-Rental, Eddie Robinson, responds.

There are lots of companies renting trailers, but not all are created equal.  When looking for a rental trailer supplier, here are a some few key points to consider:

  • Check out the quality, selection and availability of trailers   Look at your fleet mix, and if it requires multiple trailer types or even just a single type, find a supplier that can get you quality trailers in the quantity you need when you need it.  Also, think about your demand.  Can you often anticipate your needs or are they constantly changing?  You want a supplier that has trailers available whether you rental demands are expected or unexpected.
  • Select a supplier with nationwide locations – Whether you need to rent trailers in one location or many, find a supplier that has multiple locations across the regions where you operate.  This will help facilitate the pick-up and drop-off, as well as if the trailer needs maintenance while on rent.
  • Does the supplier continually invest in new trailers?   Find a vendor that is committed to the rental business and is continually investing in new equipment.  All trailers age and eventually need to be replaced.  You don’t want to rent trailers that are at the end of their life.

Eddie continues: “At GE-Trailer Fleet Services, we offer one of the largest trailer fleets in North America from nearly 100 convenient locations.   We never stop investing in our fleet in order to provide customers with the best quality and mix in the market.“  For help with trailer rentals, give us a call at 800-333-2030 and we’ll be happy to review your rental needs, whether for a day, a week a month or longer.
