VeriWise Asset Intelligence Launched in Mexico

At gala evening celebrations in Mexico City and Monterrey, more than 250 customer representatives learned of the benefits of the VeriWise TRUCKING asset intelligence solutions. The theme of the evening was "The Future is Here," and with the help of a dramatic skit, music and staging, customers were invited to pass through a curtain and enter into GE's Mobile Solution Center trailer for a technology tour and demonstration.

Mexican trucking companies and private fleets need to know where trailers are located as well as their condition, just like those in the US and Canada. To help them with productivity, security and safety, the VeriWise TRUCKING solution now is commercially available in Mexico.

To Lease or Not to Lease: Five Things to Consider

Q. Before deciding whether to lease or buy our trailers, what are some considerations?

A. GE-Trailer Fleet Services' EVP-Leasing, Scott Nelson responds. When our GE sales team is consulted on this topic, there are five essential questions they review with customers:

  1. First, how long do you want to run the trailer? For many operations, it's best to use newer leased assets and then refresh them after three or four years, rather than run them til end-of-life, and run the risk of higher maintenance at the least, or spoilage of a high-value perishable load at the worst.
  2. From a finance perspective, does leasing offer your company a significant tax advantages, such as tax deduction for a lease?
  3. Do you need depreciation -- or not -- for your overall business balance sheet?
  4. Can you afford the down payment on purchased trailers, or is your cash better used on other capital expenditures?
  5. If you purchase your trailers, what is your plan at end-of-life? Will you be able to sell at fair market value, or will your re-sale options be limited to one or two secondary market dealers who may not offer the best price.

Scott notes: "Our sales team has a terrific value analysis tool that we use with customers to help them through this decision process. It helps them understand the total cost of leasing vs. ownership, and includes an accounting of the often hidden costs of ownership, such as inspections, maintenance and productivity. Give us a call and we'll be happy to review your needs."

American Trucking Association's "Share the Road" Safety Tour

One life lost in a traffic accident is one too many. The ATA's "Share the Road" highway safety program is dedicated to reducing the fatality and accident rate on America's roadways.

Share the Road has existed for 19 years, traveling around the country to educate all motorists about how trucks and cars can safely share the road.

The program's ambassador/drivers deliver specific, life saving information that can immediately reduce the likelihood of having a traffic accident with a truck or other vehicle. This is accomplished through news conferences where cars and trucks are set up in simulated highway lanes that show the common ways in which accidents happen out on the road.

The ATA's goal is to reach as many people as possible with its safety messages to change driving behavior so that lives can be saved. Through partnerships with highway safety agencies and organizations, and its members, each helps to broadcast the most effective safety messages possible helping to make America's roadways safer for all drivers.

GE's Trailer Fleet Services is proud to be part of this program through its sponsorship donation of a 53 ft over-the-road trailer.
